Dr. Richard Garza was a successful general dentist practicing in Austin, TX and saw the challenges facing families struggling to afford the high cost of dental care. This drove him to seek a solution to the lack of access to dental care facing many low-income families.
In 1989, his bold, adventurous spirit and abundant generosity led him to create Christina’s Smile, a non-profit charity, which became his life-long passion. Under Dr. Garza’s leadership, dental professionals joined him in reaching out to children all over the country. Thousands of children have benefited by receiving free, comprehensive dental care, which would have been difficult, if not impossible, without Christina’s Smile.
Known for his humor, playful personality, quick wit, and loyal friendships, Doc gave everyone a reason to smile. From the children who received dental treatment to volunteers supporting Christina’s Smile, Richard touched thousands of lives.
Sadly, Richard passed away in November 2013. His wife, Diane Garza, is now the Executive Director for Christina’s Smile. In his honor, we continue providing excellent dental treatment throughout the United States, keeping his mission alive and caring for children who otherwise could not receive such necessary care.
